Adjusting to PolyU life
I am very excited when thinking back to the whole academic year in PolyU. The campus life here in HK is quite different from that in the mainland. There are so many opportunities in HK to acquire knowledge and experience different culture and lifestyles. It is true that if there is a desire then there is a way. I am grateful to my university for offering these great opportunities. What I need to do is just to grab them and make good use of them. I am really happy to have my U life here.
There are so many activities to do! The content of the Complementary Studies Programme and the workshops held on campus and in the hall cover almost every aspect. I attended the Viennese Waltz workshop and had a lot of fun. I also attended the western table manner workshop which did broaden my horizon. I think they will help a lot in my social life.
The field trips issue us with opportunities to have a close look at HK. I have been to a dormitory for the mentally challenged. Then I found that the service system is much more integrated in HK and the mentally retarded are treated more equally with more respect.
In the summer vacation, some of my friends attended the programme called Work and Travel in America to experience the life there. Some are doing internships in famous companies to gather work experience. For me, I was offered a position as a research assistant in the lab. It was a valuable opportunity for me because I was able to acquire new techniques to do research and practice more in the lab. I could try the high-tech equipment and conduct experiments myself which helped me understand what I have learnt in class. In addition, I could participate in the research projects and cooperate with some famous professors. In a word, we all can plan our summer vacation with various activities based on our interests in PolyU.
My dear friends, when you leave home and start your life in HK, you may be homesick more or less. Do not keep looking back and missing your family and your old friends all the time. If you keep crying for the missing sun, you will also miss the moon and the stars. Make new friends here and open your heart to accept them, and you will find a different world that can completely refresh you. Please just open your eyes and find the goodness of your new life in PolyU. There are so many interesting activities waiting for you. Do not wait! Go and participate in them! Maybe you will worry about the problem called time management since the activities that you are interested in are plenty, while time is limited. You should balance the time you spend on study, activities, friends and so on. Sometimes you should be wise and brave enough to refuse. Finally, I hope you all will make the most of your time and have a happy and rich university life in PolyU!
