Goals

ILAC 2009 has the following goals:

1.

Expand our understanding of learner autonomy in language learning by engaging academics from around the world in interdisciplinary discussion.

2.

Review achievements in the field and examine the experiences of learners and teachers thereby gaining new perspectives that will enable us to expand our present understanding and improve practice.

3.

Promote pedagogical innovation and best management practices in classrooms and in self-access centres with the aim of fostering learner autonomy and independent learning.

4.

Support and consolidate growing interest in self-access learning and learner autonomy worldwide.

5.

Expand our understanding of the relationship between e-learning initiatives, learner autonomy and independent learning.

6. Explore the role of teacher education programmes in preparing educators to work in learning environments that foster learner autonomy and independent learning.
