Brainstorming Expressions

Aim: This page contains some expressions you can use when brainstorming.

    Suggesting

  • "I think that" + a clause
     e.g. "I think that we should search on the Net."
  • "Let's" followed by an infinitive verb
     e.g. "Let's search on the Net."
  • "It would be a good idea to"  followed by an infinitive verb
     e.g. "It would be a good idea to search on the Net."
  • "We could"  followed by an infinitive verb
     e.g. "We could search on the Net."
  • "Why don't we" followed by an infinitive verb
     e.g. "Why don't we search on the Net."
  • "How about"  followed by an _ing verb
     e.g. "How about searching on the Net."

Criticising

DON'T CRITICISE IDEAS DURING BRAINSTORMING SESSIONS, WAIT UNTIL AFTERWARDS

Accepting Good Ideas

  • "Yes, that's a good idea."
  • "I like that."

Accepting Other Ideas

  • "I'll write that down."
  • "O.K." (This means that you understand, not that you agree)
  • "I've got that". (Say this after you have written something down)

Encouraging Contributions

  • "What do you think?"
  • "Any more ideas?"
  • "What else?"
