Booking the Company Junk

A Modern Junk

A Modern Junk
The instructions for booking the company junk in the memo below are not only confusing and disorganised, they are a waste of time and therefore money for the company. Move your mouse over the underlined words in the instructions to see the problems.

Combining the booking procedures and the booking form into an interactive web page would save staff time, reduce administration costs and reduce the chances of confusion. This is because the form limits the staff's options and checks for mistakes. It refuses to register the booking unless it is filled in correctly. Click here to see this form.

Here are the original instructions. Click on the links to see a description of the problems:

Booking of the company junk

Staff at the company’s grade 8 and above are entitled to use the company junk, bookings of which can be made through the Personnel Manager’s office.

The following rules and regulations should be observed:

  1. Each booking should be made by completing a copy of the booking form together with cheque payment of HK$1,200 made payable to Multicorp Enterprises.
  2. When, on the day of the use of the junk, the Observatory issues a tropical cyclone signal (no. 3 and above), or a thunderstorm or flood or landslide or rainstorm warning, the use of the junk is automatically cancelled. The user will be refunded in full.
  3. A minimum of three working days’ notice is required for cancellation, failing which no refund will be made.
  4. Should the junk be taken out of the water for maintenance for any unforeseen circumstances, a full refund will be made to the booking party concerned.
  5. Day-time cruises should not exceed a total of eight hours, between the hours of 0900 hours and 1800 hours, while evening cruises should not exceed a total of five hours, between the hours of 1700 hours and 2300 hours (2300 hours on disembarking and at Aberdeen Public Pier only).
  6. The regular weekday off for the boatmen is Tuesday. With the exception of the Lunar New Year and Winter Solstice, the boatmen will be on duty during statutory and other public holidays.
