DELTA

DELTA stands for Diagnostic English Language Tracking Assessment. It is an online English language testing system that students can take each year during their degree programme. Students take the DELTA in a language lab and answer multiple choice questions in four skills - listening, reading, vocabulary and grammar.

About a week after taking the DELTA, students receive an email telling them to login to the DELTA system to find out their results. The results come in the form of a report that shows an overall DELTA score, the skills that the student is relatively strong or weak in, and detailed information about the subskills that the student had trouble with, e.g. listening for specific information, present perfect tense, etc.

When the student takes the DELTA again, the system remembers them and gives them a new set of questions that are suitable for that student's ability. As the student progresses through university, the system tracks their progress so that they can see if they are improving their English and if they need to work harder.

The DELTA is currently taken by students at the PolyU as well as by students at CityU and Lingnan University. Students at Chinese University and Baptist University will soon be able to take the DELTA as well. For more information, go to the DELTA website at http://gslpa.polyu.edu.hk/eng/delta_web/.
