What's new?

New ELC staff

The ELC continues to expand with nine new academic members of staff joining us this semester

We would like to take this opportunity to welcome Daniel Barlow, Richard Brooke, Dr Svetlana Chigaeva, Dr Joe Ching, Cameron Darcy, Sue Fitzgerald, Gavin Johnson, Jim Lo and Winnie Wu to our teaching team, and Emily Chan to our admin team.

We would also like to congratulate several members of the ELC teaching staff on their recent promotions: Dr Julia Chen (Senior Lecturer), Angel Lung (Lecturer), Andrew Morrall (Senior Lecturer) and Adam Tse (Lecturer).

ELC clubs & societies

We would like to invite you to join one of the extra-curricular clubs & events hosted by the ELC.

Student-run clubs include the English Club, which hosts Big Mouth Corner every Thursday evening to encourage local and international students to meet and have fun, all the while speaking in English.  For those who enjoy theatre or film we have the student-run English Drama Club, and PIFS, the PolyU International Film Society (the only international film society in Hong Kong, as far as we know). For book-lovers, we run a number of Reading Groups which meet each week to discuss the book they have chosen to read.

If you would like to win $20,000 to study English and gain intercultural exposure at one of three overseas institutions next summer, the English Award Scheme is for you. We are holding workshops about the EAS scheme on the 22 and 29 September (Tuesday) in room A302 from 18.30 - 20.00, please come along and meet the team. If you would like to learn more before the workshops, click here.
