Mission Statement

Our objectives

To enhance students' communication skills so that they can pursue academic and professional excellence

To foster students' independent, life-long English language learning and whole-person development

To support the pursuit of English language excellence within the PolyU and in the wider Hong Kong community


We aim to achieve these objectives by

  • Providing high quality English language subjects and other learning opportunities
  • Developing and implementing effective quality assurance mechanisms, and reliable and valid English language assessment
  • Supporting PolyU students in the development of effective strategies for independent, life-long learning
  • Providing a range of non-formal, student-centred activities with an English language focus
  • Advancing knowledge of language learning and teaching through research and scholarly activity
  • Establishing strong connections with the professions, other tertiary institutions and the school sector
  • Providing a stimulating and fulfilling workplace that respects cultural and individual diversity
